Musical
Background: He was the inheritor of a rich musical heritage.
His maternal grandfather was the great Kavikunjara Bharati, a
contemporary of the Trinity and the author of many popular musical and
devotional lyrics. He learnt under Ramnad Srinivasa Iyengar and later
under Patnam Subramanya Iyer.
Contribution: He has composed around 200 pieces, besides kritis in each of the 72 Melakartas, known as the Kanda Ganamudam. He has also composed Venba and Sundareswara Padikam. Theme: Devotional, mainly in praise of Lord Muruga. Signature: His compositions have the mudra, Kavi Kunjaradasan. Popular Compositions: Edayya gati (Chalanata), Varanamukha (Hamsadhwani), Arulseyyavendum (Rasikapriya) etc. |
