Musical Background: As a young boy, Reddiyar could compose in many of the Tamil poetical forms. He then proceeded to Tiruvaduturai Mutt, where he became proficient in Tamil and music.
Region: He was born in Chennikulam, Tirunelveli district, Tamilnadu. Contribution: He was instrumental in introducing Kavadi Chindu, a folk melody, normally in praise of Lord Muruga. He has also written Verai Talapuranam, Virainavanita Krishnasami Patikam and Gomati Andadi. Theme: His compositions were mainly devotional, in praise of Lord Muruga. Language used: Tamil. Signature: His compositions have the mudra, Annamalai. Popular Compositions: Bhoomimechidum, Tellutamizhukkudavum etc. |
