Talents for the Season

G. Chandrasekara Sharma

G. Chandrasekara Sharma is one of the most sought after Ghatam artistes in the Carnatic music circuit today. Hailing from an illustrious musical lineage, he grew up in a household that always had music in the air. Grandson of late Sri.T.R.Harihara Sharma and son of violin vidwan Sri.T.H.Gurumoorthy, and nephew of Ghatam maestro Sri.T.H.Vinayakaram, he imbibed the best from his uncle and created a unique style of his own. He is one of the foremost artistes in the field of percussion today. After his debut concert in 2000, for Smt.Sulochana attabhiraman, there has been no looking back. He has been blessed to share the stage with some of the most iconic musicians of this generation. He says, “I have a lot of memorable concerts but the one I played for the late mandolin Shrinivas is very close to my heart”. Chandrasekara Sharma has been actively involved in experimental music ensembles, instrumental medleys and fusion shows. According to him, “the best advice is to listen to a lot of concerts so that we can learn a lot and it’s been told to me by a lot of senior musicians”. Also trained in vocal music under Sri.N.Vijay Siva, he has actively given back to the arts by being an executive committee member of YACM for 5 years.
