MAHARAJA JAYACHAMARAJA WODEYAR (18th July, 1919 - 23rd September, 1974)

Musical Background: He was the son of Maharaja Narasimharaja Wodeyar and Semba Seluvajammaka. As the future King of Mysore State, he received training in various languages, sciences and art forms. He was the last ruler of Mysore State and came to power in 1940 onwards.

Contribution: As one keenly interested in music and other arts, he was one of the greatest patrons of artistes. He had great vidwans like Tiger Varadachariar, Mysore Vasudevachar, Muthaiah Bhagavatar, Gotuvadyam Narayana Iyengar and Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar in his court. He was also a composer of eminence, being a scholar of Sanskrit, and has about 94 compositions to his credit. He gave shape to several rare ragas like Durvangi, Bhogavasanta etc.
